The verb играть
Do you know that the difference between “I play the guitar” and “I play football” is just a preposition?
Let’s have a look at these two meanings of the verb “играть”
- to play a sport or game
- to play a musical instrument
This is really easy. You only need to know two prepositions (в and на) and when to use them.
To play a sport: играть + в + the name of the sport in accusative
- играть в футбол
To play a musical instrument: играть + на + the name of the instrument in prepositional
- играть на гитаре
