THE INSTRUMENTAL CASE
WHEN IS THE INSTRUMENTAL USE? Generally, we use the instrumental case...
- to express the "instrument" used to perform an action: Он пишет ручкой - He writes with a pen.
- with the preposition с (with): Я иду тюда с тобой - I go there with you / Кофе с молоком - Coffee with milk.
- to tell the parts of the day: утро/утром: - morning / in the morning - день/днём: afternoon / in the afternoon
вечер/вечером: evening / in the evening - ночь/ночью: night / at night.

The Instrumental Case: Adjectives
In the dialogues we have seen examples of Instrumental Case (Instr.) in adjectives. Below we will learn more about it:
| Adjective + Noun in plural:
We highlight in red the endings for each gender. Masculine: -ыми -ими - Это мои новые студенты (Nom.). - These are my new students. - Я доволен моими новыми студентами (Instr.). - I am pleased with my new students.
Feminine: -ыми -ими
- Это мои интересные книги (Nom.). - These are my interesting books. - Я доволен моими интересными книгами (Instr.). - I am pleased with my interestings books.
Neuter: -ыми -ими
- Это мои большие окна (Nom.). - These are my big windows. - Я доволен моими большими окнами (Instr.). - I am pleased with my big windows. |
